Furuya Ryokan (hotel) was established in 1806 and is located in the Atami Onsen (hot-spring) area, just 30 minutes from Tokyo by bullet train. Here you will have the chance to experience traditional Japanese cuisine, and we also have guestrooms which have open-air hot-spring baths so that you can enjoy a soothing onsen experience in privacy.

The gate that welcomes you to Furuya Ryokan was used in the movie "Kagemusha" by the world-famous director Akira Kurosawa. After entering the gate, you will see an unusually-shaped pine tree; It is not a huge tree, but has been here for a long time. Atami Post Office was first built inside the Furuya Ryokan area. It has now been moved into the city, but it is one of the memories of this ryokan. Inside the ryokan, you will also find pictures drawn by Sharaku (an Edo-era artist), as well as the oldest radio in Japan, which was imported in the year Taisho 13. At that time, 5 radios were imported to Japan for the emperor, Tsuyoshi Inukai, Mitsui Bussan, Mitsui (the head family) and the owners of this hotel - Furuya Ryokan. It is said that people from all over Japan came to Furuya Ryokan to listen to the radio. The only one of these radios that still exists is the one at Furuya Ryokan.
There are 8 guestrooms with a private open-air bath. The bath is made from various materials such as stone and Japanese cypress. The room has an area of more than 15 tatami mats.
Enjoy artistically-presented Japanese cuisine known as "kaiseki ryouri".

From Furuya Ryokan, the beach is practically on your doorstep. In the morning, you can see the sun rising over the pacific ocean. This area is ideal for an early-morning walk along the beach.
A famous onsen (hot-spring) spot, Atami is about 30 minutes from Tokyo by bullet train and about 40 minutes from Hakone. It is located in the Izu area, which is home to many hotels and ryokans. Since it is near Tokyo and a popular seaside onsen spot, many people visit Atami throughout the year. A wonderful place for relaxation, great food and Edo-era culture.
